J CarterCarter (they/them) is a fight choreographer, actor, dialect coach, and storyteller based in Seattle, WA. Their work has has resided mainly on the east coast with companies like Unto These Hills Outdoor Drama, Blue Gate Musicals, The National Theatre for Children, Portsmouth Area Children's Theatre, and much more. Now, their dad-like sense of humor has infiltrated the rehearsal rooms of western Washington.
Their most recent work has included Beauty and the Beast and The Mystery of Edwin Drood with Porstmouth Area Children's Theatre, Cabaret with Shawnee State University, King John with The Oconaluftee Little Symphony, and Wait Until Dark with Middle Tennessee State University. They were even the fight director for a production of John Cage's 4'33. Though they have extensive experience in weapon disciplines ranging from theatrical firearms to rapier and dagger, their primary focus has been to collaboratively spread systems and structures advocating for performers' safety and creating inclusive spaces for all artists. They have recently found great success in teaching young artists the power of autonomy and community care through the lens of unarmed stage combat. These efforts help to build a path towards a long and fruitful theatrical landscape, not just for us now, but for generations to come. |
